July / August

Well, the trip to Hamata at the beginning of July will certainly stay in the memory for some time. We had some great diving, beautiful coral and plenty of life. Snorkelling with the dolphins not once but three times was amazing and the encounter with the giant Napoleon was fantastic. Definitely a place to return to.
Congratulations to David Maskell for qualifying as a Sports Diver.
Thanks to Sam for organising the trip to Anglesey, pity about the viz on some of the dives, some people actually found the wrecks!! We did see some Tompot Blennies, Dragonets and Dogfish; and the Dakota was a nice wreck. The fish & chips were good in Cemaes and we had a lovely meal in Trecastell.
We have managed to fit in some training dives during the summer break from the pool and we have got some Master Diver and Sports Diver assessments ticked off during trips to Capernwray and Crummock Water.
Despite the weather the BBQ went well and a good time was had by all. Peter tried to demolish our new wall but his car came off worse!!

May / June

CONGRATULATIONS to Catherine, Andrea, Fiona, Sam, David and Tom on completing the Master Diver Lecture test.
A visit to Capernwray saw David restart his OW training. Gary & Ian also completed some SD assessments while Tom, Jeff, Catherine & Bridget did some MD assessments. A very good day apart from the downpour after the second dive.
Unfortunately poor weather put paid to our Eyemouth trip but thanks to Catherine for all the hard work organising it.
Bank Holiday Monday saw us at Talkin Tarn where Bridget & Fiona had laid out a course through the wood for us to practice some navigation. It was a great success and good fun, the sun was shining so we finished the day off with an ice cream.
Sunday, 31st and we were back at St Catherine's, Loch Fyne. Two members (who shall be nameless)decided to go via Dunoon & Inverary (they blamed the SatNav!)you should have come on the navigation course lads!! For Gary, Ian & David it was their first sea dive. Again the weather was perfect and we had a BBQ to round off the day and Catherine baked Peter a birthday cake.

The club generated quite a bit of interest at the Talkin Tarn open day and there have been requests for try dives in July. We have another new member Gareth who has just joined us. We had a great weekend's diving at St Abbs with Paul Crowe, the weather was kind and we had sightings of lumpsuckers and wolf fish. Well done to Catherine, Gill, Bridget & Sue who completed the Midnight Walk in aid of the Eden Valley Hospice and thanks to all who sponsored us. A Sunday trip to Wastwater saw David polish off a couple more assessments while Sue & Jim tended to the BBQ. The end of the month saw the girls having a night out to celebrate Jackie's birthday and the boys also had a good night out by all accounts!

April

CONGRATULATIONS TO BRIDGET & JEFF who have now qualified as Branch Instructors.
Welcome to our new members Tom, Mike, Johnny & Andy.
Good Friday saw a few of us again visiting Capernwray, where members were able to practice their navigation skills between the various underwater attractions.
Saturday, 18th saw us setting off at 0630 for the trip to Loch Fyne. It was a beautiful day and the site at St. Catherine's was ideal with plenty of car parking, easy access and a nice reef with quite a bit of life - dogfish, scorpion fish and a conger eel among the fish spotted. The day was rounded off by a BBQ before we took the long trek home.
On Sunday, 19th five members attended the Master Diver Lectures held jointly with Solway Divers. Thanks to Solway for hosting the event and the buffet and to all the members from both clubs who gave the lectures.
We have had three try dives this month and we have also had a number of enquiries from potential new members.

March

Sunday, 2nd saw members attending the Oxygen administration & Heartstart course. Again there was a very good turn out and thanks again to Bert Smith for giving up his time.
Congratulations to Jeff who has now completed both his BI pool assessments.
Saturday 28th a good trip to Capernwray where Gary & Ian had their first open water dives. The water was a balmy 7deg so the warm changing rooms were much appreciated.
